ECTROPION CONDITION

An ectropion is a condition where the eyelid turns out. This may affect the one or both lower (more common) or upper eyelids. This is often the result of aging and more rarely from scarring due to trauma or prior eyelid surgery, eyelid growths or inflammation. Patients often complain of irritation, tearing, dry eye and blurry vision. Surgical correction is usually done under local anesthesia as an ambulatory or office procedure.

An entropion is a condition where the eyelid turns inward, causing the eyelashes to rub against the eyeball. Lower or upper eyelids may be affected and result in irritation, discomfort or pain, tearing and blurred vision. Most often this is the result of aging, but can also be caused by prior surgery, trauma, growths or inflammatory conditions. Surgical correction has a high success rate and is usually done under local anesthesia.
