What is Restylane®?
Restylane® Lyft (formerly Perlane) is a hyaluronic acid filler used to augment and replace lost volume in the face. Its stabilized, engineered formula is best for deep creases rather than shallow lines because of its large particle structure. Lifting the cheek area results in improvement of nasolabial folds and jowls, restoring youthful facial appearance. Restylane® Lyft is a very versatile product with a long, proven history of providing safe, precise and predictable results. The results from Restylane® are immediate and, in most patients, last up to 12 months.
What can Restylane treat?
Restylane® is a common hyaluronic acid dermal filler that can treat mild, moderate, and severe wrinkles and folds that occur with age. Restylane a diverse product with numerous formulations, each designed to address different parts of the face and correct different problems. The heavier formulations are used to treat cheeks, jawline and temple areas. The finer, thinner forms are appropriate for the delicate area around the eyes, lips and fines lines of the face. This filler works well in dynamic areas, such as those around the mouth and therefore looks natural with facial expressions.
How is Restylane administered?
Restylane treatment is administered in our office after a consultation with Dr. Levin to discuss concerns and desired outcome. The injection portion of the appointment is completed in just a few minutes. Using a tiny needle or a cannula, we administer the filler product into creases and facial folds to plump tissue and smooth the surface of the skin. Lip treatment involves a few injections into particular areas of the lips that need volume for better proportions.
How long does the Restylane treatment take?
Like other injectables, Restylane is referred to as a lunchtime treatment because an appointment may take just a few minutes to complete. First, we observe the treatment area to determine the amount and location where filler should be placed. If you request topical numbing cream, this will need to be left on the skin for 20 minutes before we commence with injections. The injection portion of treatment may take only 5 to 10 minutes and results are immediately noticeable.
See What Our Patients Are Saying:
“I would highly recommend Dr. Flora Levin for cosmetic injections. I went in with multiple questions and not only did she listen very carefully, she was able answer and consult with me about what would be the best option. Dr. Levin was very gentle and took her time to make sure I was comfortable and the injections were perfect. Of the many times I have received Botox injections this was my best experience yet!”

Is Restylane treatment painful?
Patients tolerate Restylane treatment very well due to the inclusion of lidocaine in the filler solution. Lidocaine has an analgesic effect on tissue that begins with the first injection, so subsequent injections may be felt less than the first. If you are concerned about comfort during your injectable treatment, please let us know. Strategies such as ice or topical numbing cream can be used to minimize nerve sensations and make your appointment much more pleasant.
Can I have a Restylane treatment if I am pregnant?
The effects of Restylane have not been tested on pregnant or breastfeeding women, so treatment is not conducted under these conditions.
How long do the effects of Restylane treatment last?
This depends on the area being treated. The more dynamic areas such as those around the mouth and lips may last 6-9 months. Whereas cheeks, eyelids and other facial areas may last 12 months or more. Clinical studies have shown that 95% of patients treated with Restylane still saw results from their treatment after 12 months. Every person metabolizes soft tissue fillers differently so results may last for a shorter or slightly longer period of time.
What are the possible risks and side effects of Restylane treatment?
There are minor risks for rare side effects with any injectable treatment, such as allergic reaction. Injections could also lead to infection, which is why dermal fillers and other injectables should only be administered by a licensed provider who has been trained to use cosmetic products like Restylane. It is important to know how a particular formulation of hyaluronic acid will behave beneath the skin in order to achieve optimal results. We routinely use Restylane as well as other injectables and have helped many of our patients address age-related cosmetic concerns comfortably and without incident.
In some instances, bruising may occur after injectable treatment. Patients are advised not to take aspirin, ibuprofen, vitamin E, St. John’s Wort, or fish oil for a few days before their appointment, as these medications and supplements can increase the risk of bruising. If bruising does occur, it usually decreases gradually within 24 to 48 hours.
The most common side effects of Restylane treatment include minor redness and swelling, usually localized around injection sites. These fade within hours of treatment. In some areas (lips and around the eyes) swelling may last 3-4 days. To expedite the recovery from injections, patients may apply ice to injection points.
How much does Restylane treatment cost?
The cost of Restylane can vary depending on the amount of product that is used to achieve the desired outcome. A personal consultation in our Westport, CT office allows us to discuss what you’d like to achieve, the benefits of Restylane, and the estimated cost of treatment based on the concerns you wish to address.
