Advanced Techniques for Natural Eye Area Rejuvenation

As a board-certified oculofacial plastic surgeon, Dr. Flora Levin understands the delicate nature of the eye area and employs advanced techniques to rejuvenate and restore natural beauty without looking overdone.

Under-Eye Bags

Treatment: Lower Blepharoplasty

Under-eye bags can be caused by genetics, aging, and weakened tissue support around the eyes. Over time, the protective fat pads beneath the lower eyelids can bulge forward, creating a puffy, tired appearance. Dr. Levin performs lower blepharoplasty to smooth away this puffiness and restore a more youthful, well-rested look.

Dr. Levin may remove or reposition excess fat during the procedure to reduce under-eye swelling while tightening underlying tissues for a smoother, firmer contour. She can also trim extra skin to diminish wrinkles or crepe-like texture if needed. Dr. Levin tailors every surgery to deliver balanced, natural-looking results that enhance—not change—your features.

Hollow Eyelids

Treatment: Fat Grafting, Under-Eye Filler, Lower Blepharoplasty

Hollow eyelids often occur when the delicate skin and supporting structures beneath the eyes lose volume or shift due to aging, genetics, or lifestyle factors. This volume loss can create a sunken appearance, emphasize dark circles, and leave you looking tired or older than you feel.

Dr. Levin’s specialized training in oculofacial plastic surgery enables her to address these concerns with a personalized combination of treatments:

  • Fat Grafting: For patients seeking a lasting volume solution, Dr. Levin can transfer a small amount of your own fat to the hollow area. This technique helps create a smooth, natural-looking contour that integrates seamlessly with the surrounding tissue.
  • Under-Eye Filler: A minimally invasive option to restore lost volume and improve the transition between the lower eyelid and cheek. Filler can quickly soften hollowing, and results are often visible immediately with minimal downtime.
  • Lower Blepharoplasty: Surgery may be the most effective choice if hollow eyelids are accompanied by puffy under-eye bags or excess skin. By carefully repositioning or removing fat and tightening the lower eyelid tissues, Dr. Levin can create a more refreshed and balanced look.

Dark Circles

Treatment: Fat Grafting, Under-Eye Filler, Lower Blepharoplasty

Dark circles can be caused by various factors, including genetics, thinning skin, and lifestyle influences such as poor sleep or stress. As the skin around the eyes becomes thinner, underlying blood vessels may show through more prominently, leading to a darker, shadowed appearance. For some patients, natural fat pads under the eyes can shift or diminish over time, creating hollows or tear troughs that also accentuate darkness.

Dr. Levin addresses dark circles with the same techniques used for hollow eyelids—fat grafting, filler, or lower blepharoplasty—adjusted to fit each patient’s unique anatomy and goals:

  • Fat Grafting: Helps restore volume and camouflage dark circles by transferring a small amount of your own fat to the area. This method delivers a longer-lasting boost in volume.
  • Under-Eye Filler: A minimally invasive option to fill tear trough hollows and smooth out transitions between the lower eyelid and cheek, helping to reduce the appearance of darkness.
  • Lower Blepharoplasty: Surgery may offer the most comprehensive improvement if dark circles are accompanied by puffy under-eye bags or excess skin. By repositioning or removing excess fat, Dr. Levin brightens the under-eye region and creates a more youthful look.

Hooded Eyelids

Treatment: Upper Blepharoplasty

Hooded eyelids develop when excess skin on the upper lids droops, hiding the natural eyelid crease and, in some cases, affecting your field of vision. This condition often results from aging, loss of skin elasticity, or genetics. Besides making it more challenging to apply makeup, hooded eyelids may cause you to appear tired or even interfere with optimal eyesight.

Dr. Levin addresses hooded eyelids with an upper blepharoplasty, a surgical procedure that carefully removes surplus skin and redefines the eyelid crease. This straightforward yet transformative approach can leave the eye area looking refreshed, more alert, and in harmony with your natural facial features. Depending on your anatomy and goals, Dr. Levin may also adjust the underlying muscles or fat to achieve a balanced, revitalized result.

Droopy Eyelids

Treatment: Upper Blepharoplasty, Ptosis Repair

When the upper eyelid droops, it is often due to ptosis, which is caused by weakness or stretching of the muscle (levator) that lifts the eyelid. This drooping makes the eyes appear tired or aged and can also limit one's field of vision.

Depending on the severity of the droop and the amount of excess skin present, Dr. Levin may recommend one or both of the following approaches:

  • Upper Blepharoplasty: This procedure removes sagging skin and refines the upper eyelid contour. An upper blepharoplasty alone may be sufficient for mild ptosis or when the primary concern is excess eyelid skin that causes a “heavy” or hooded look.
  • Ptosis Repair: In cases where the levator muscle is too weak to hold the eyelid open, Dr. Levin performs a specialized surgical repair to elevate the eyelid to a more functional and aesthetically pleasing position. This can significantly improve vision, facial symmetry, and overall appearance.
