A chemical peel is used to exfoliate the skin and can be customized to fit your skin’s needs. TCA peels are newer and less harsh than traditional chemical peels. TCA peels are progressive in that they aren’t one-treatment peels but rather a series. By using this series of peels, you will see more dramatic results with continued use.

What Conditions Can a TCA Peel Help Treat?

A TCA peel can be used for a variety of skin conditions, or to give skin an overall refresh and rejuvenation. Some of the most common issues a peel can treat include:

  • Reducing acne scars
  • Correct negative effects from the sun such as discoloration
  • Help with common signs of aging such as wrinkles and discoloration
  • Improve pore size and skin elasticity

If you are interested in treating any of these skin conditions, contact Dr. Flora Levin’s office to see if a TCA peel is right for you.

How Does a TCA Peel Work?

Depending on the condition of your skin and your overall skin goals, a TCA peel can either target the top layer or the deeper layers of the skin.

Using lactic acid and salicylic acid the peel is able to penetrate the skin and provide deep exfoliation.  In any form, chemical peels stimulate collagen production, making the skin appear smoother, tighter, and more youthful.

TCA Peel Treatment

On the day of your procedure, your skin will be cleansed before having the peel applied by a medical aesthetician. Once the peel is applied, you may feel some slight tingling, but it should be very minor. The TCA peel may then be reapplied, creating layers. Depending on your skin type and concerns, more layers of the peel may be applied. Before sending you home, a layer of sunscreen may also be applied to give you SPF protection.

What is a chemical peel?

Chemical peels are one of the more common non-invasive cosmetic procedures for making skin look healthier and removing blemishes. They deeply exfoliate the skin and can penetrate the skin to remove common types of skin blemishes including discoloration and scarring. Over time, the increased collagen production results in smaller pores, improved fine lines and wrinkles and overall more glowing youthful skin. Chemical peels are a great non-invasive way to keep your skin looking its best, especially as a maintenance between more invasive procedures such as lasers or microneedline.

Is there a recovery time after TCA peels?

After your TCA peel you will be given aftercare instructions from Dr. Flora Levin’s team. You will be able to return to your regular activities right away but should avoid the sun and heated activities such as hot showers or exercise while your skin is healing. You may also experience some redness after your peel.

When can I wear makeup after a TCA peel?

Depending on the specific instructions from your specialist, you may be able to wear makeup directly after your treatment. Follow all aftercare instructions to ensure the best possible results.

How long should I avoid the sun after a TCA chemical peel?

After your TCA chemical peel you should ideally avoid direct sun exposure for one to two weeks as your skin will still be recovering and healing. You should apply SPF every day, even while not in direct sunlight.
